Ottawa County has a rich history. The county was originally named for the Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma. It is also the location of the Modoc Tribe of Oklahoma and the Quapaw Tribe of Indians, which is based in Quapaw. The Quapaw found a home among the Cherokee nation.
The county has a total area of 485 square miles, which makes it the fourth-smallest county in Oklahoma by area. Its population is spread out across the county, consisting of approximately 33,194 people, 12,984 households, and 9,114 families according to the 2020 Census.
